FG inducts 50 graduate interns in Abuja
The Federal Government, yesterday, inducted 50 graduates in various disciplines to undertake the graduate internship scheme (GIS).
The induction’s orientation training lessons in involved work etiquette, personal appreciation and development and improving employability.
GIS is a component of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) designed for graduates to be placed in interested an organisation where they can be mentored to develop some skills.
The project director of GIS under the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Peter. M Papka said: “This is the first time in the history of our nation that GIS is placed on the priority agenda of government to help address the challenges of graduate unemployment. Our educational curricula in higher institutions as currently designed, does not provide for the employment needs for work place skills which accounts for unemployable graduate.
“Agriculture, information technology and communication technology (ICT), power, construction, health, environment and sanitation as well as financial literacy and inclusion have been identified to provide more windows of opportunity to support building manpower through the GIS,” Papka said.
