- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

A 35-year-old staffer of the National Park, Abuja, Danladi Baba, has been hacked to death by suspected motorcycle snatchers at Sabo village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

A resident of the community, Abubakar Bako, said the incident happened Thursday around 7:34 pm when the deceased, who resided at Unguwar Gede, was ambushed by the suspected motorcycle thieves at a forest, few metres away from Sabo village.

He said the deceased left Kuje, along with his younger brother, on that fateful day to visit a friend at Sabo community, adding he was sitting at the back of a motorcycle being driven by his younger brother when the incident happened.

According to him, few metres away from a neighbouring Gbedozhi village, near a stream at a plantain farm, one of the suspects suddenly emerged from the bush and flashed a light on the rider’s eyes, making him to fall by the road side.

Bako said: “When they fell on the ground, the suspect called on his colleagues in the bush and they all trooped out. Before then, the rider of the motorcycle ran into the bush, leaving the deceased who owned the motorcycle behind. The suspects used machete to kill the deceased and escaped with the motorcycle.”

Bako said the deceased younger brother, who escaped through bush path back to Sabo village, placed a phone call to their parents at Kuje about the attack and some members of the family went to the scene.

“When they got there, they met the corpse of the young man lying by the road side with machete cuts all over his body,” he said.

He added that a flashlight and stick were found beside the corpse of the deceased, adding that the corpse was taken to Kuje and the police alerted.

“The police came to see the corpse, while detailed explanation was made to them on how the incident occurred,’’ Bako added.

When this reporter visited the deceased’s family on Friday, his father, mother and other members of the family wore a mournful look.

City News further gathered that the remains of the deceased were buried on the same day the incident happened.

Effort to get the reaction of the Kuje Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Akeem Hussein, was not successful, but a police officer at the division, confirmed the incident, saying the police have commenced investigation into the matter.

The Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Jibrin Tanko, said he would not comment on the incident yet.
