Yusuf blames Sharks defeat on players

- By David Ngobua

Technical Adviser of El-Kanemi Warriors, Salisu Yusuf has blamed his team’s 0-2 loss in the Nigeria League week 9 to Sharks on the inability of his players to click.

The defeat left El-Kanemi on 12 points while Sharks remain on top of the log with 17 points from nine matches.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday on phone, the coach said his players did not impress in the match as they failed to lift up their game against Sharks.

The former Super Eagles assistant coach said had his players played up to even fifty per cent of their abilities, his team would have left PortHarcourt with something in its kitty.

He said even as the two goals his team conceded came from the penalty spot, he will not make any comments on the referee’s decision because it is final.

Yusuf said questioning the decisions of referees can easily get someone into the bad books of authorities and he would not want to be a victim.

“I agree that my players did not step up their game. They did not play their normal game. I was not impressed with their performance.

“Had it been they played half of what they are capable of playing, we would have left Port-Harcourt with a good result. They did not play well.

“I do not want to talk about the penalties that were awarded against us because referees decisions are final. Once decisions are made, they have been made and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
