15 arraigned over attack on Baraje’s residence
Fifteen suspected hoodlums who allegedly attacked the residence of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Alhaji Kawu Baraje were yesterday arraigned before an Ilorin magistrate’s court.
They were said to have on April 23, 2014 criminally conspired, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, attempted to attack Baraje at his residence along Eruda/Baboko Road, Ilorin. Two people were shot while 14 vehicles were destroyed in the attack.
Commissioner of Police, Ambrose Aisabo, had on Friday last week paraded the suspects, saying the gang leader’s arrest paved way for the arrest of the 14 other members of the gang at their hideout in Isale koko area in Ilorin. According to the police, a search was conducted on the accused and a gun, a battle axe, hammer, charms, two wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp among others were discovered.
The prosecutor, Corporal Lukman Ayenigba, objected to their bail and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation. The defence counsel, Barrister Bola Olokoba, prayed the court to admit them to bail pending the outcome of investigation.
Magistrate Bosede Adeyemo however agreed with the submission of the defence and admitted the accused to bail at the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum each. The case was adjourned to May 5 for further mention.
