Kaduna law­mak­ers move to ban Ach­aba

Law­mak­ers at the Kaduna State House of As­sem­bly yes­ter­day adopted a re­port pre­sented by it Com­mit­tee on Ju­di­ciary on the ban of commercial mo­tor­cy­cles pop­u­larly known as Ach­aba in Kaduna town. Pre­sent­ing the re­port, chair­man of the com­mit­tee, Kan­tiok I. Irim­iya, said based on the com­mit­tee’s find­ings, there was need to ban the oper­a­tion of commercial mo­tor­cy­clists in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafan­chan towns for se­cu­rity rea­sons.

He how­ever added that cer­tain pro­vi­sions of the bill need to be amended to take care of the lapses that may oc­cur when the law even­tu­ally takes ef­fect.

Kan­tiok fur­ther pro­posed that ar­eas that are ex­pe­ri­enc­ing se­cu­rity chal­lenges in the state should also be in­cluded in the bill. He listed them to in­clude; Lere Lo­cal Govern­ment, Do­gon Dawa - Kaduna road, Giwa Lo­cal Govern­ment, Farin Ruwa - Zaria road, Jos - Zaria road, Sam­i­naka, Marharaba Yakawada - Kuyello and Birnin Gwari - Fun­tua road among oth­ers.

In their con­tri­bu­tions, mem­bers of the House stressed the need for the bill to be taken se­ri­ously. Mem­ber rep­re­sent­ing Kubau in the House, Muntaka Zuntu, ad­vised that Mara­banRido, an area in Chikun Lo­cal Govern­ment Area be in­cluded in the bill, while urg­ing the state govern­ment to as a mat­ter of ur­gency make pro­vi­sion for tri­cy­cles to help re­duce the suf­fer­ing of the people when the law takes ef­fect.
