The Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission for Cooperation (NNJC) has pledged to employ measures against flooding in the two countries.

The Secretary-General of the commission, Alhaji Abduljalil Sulaiman, said during the recent opening of the meeting of the Standing Committee of experts on Water Resources in Sokoto, Nigeria, that experts have been invited to provide the people of both countries with satisfactory solution to the problem.

The experts were invited to come up with recommendations which will enable the NNJC to overcome barriers militating against the equitable sharing of common water resources.

This is in “order to identify protective measures against flood therein, with a view to promoting the development of socio-economic activities” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Jabbi Kilgore, expressed his gratitude to the commission for its projects designed to develop and protect people’s lives and property. (Agency report)
