Akpabio in hospital after car crash
Senate minority leader Godswill Akpabio was yesterday involved in a car accident on his way to the airport for an international trip.
The former Akwa Ibom state governor’s car hit the car of a foreign envoy around 7.30am near the Bolingo Hotel in the Central Business District of Abuja.
The identity of the envoy has not been established.
Witnesses said immediately after the accident, Akpabio who was in the car with his driver was rushed to the National Hospital.
When our correspondent went to the scene around noon, the vehicles of the senator and that of the envoy had been evacuated.
But safety officials who participated in the rescue of the senator said the minority leader sustained injury on his chest.
“Akpabio’s driver did not sustain any injury but the senator suffered some injuries in the chest region,” he said.
Chief information officer of the hospital Rabiah Labaran confirmed that the senator was rushed to the hospital after the crash.
“He was brought in this morning after he had a car crash as I learnt. He was brought in from the Bolingo Hotel junction,” she said.
It was gathered that the senator who was first admitted at the trauma unit has been taken to the private wing of the hospital.
