Bizmen remanded for threatenin­g men with monkey and snake

Two businessme­n have been remanded in prison custody by an Abuja grade 1 area court for allegedly threatenin­g one Musa Abiola with monkey and snake and forcefully collecting the sum of N30,000 from his pocket at Dutsen Alhaji, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

Abdullahi Mohammed and Shehu Ahmed were charged with joint act, theft, resisting arrest, wrongful restrain and mischief, offences contrary to sections 79, 288, 172, 256 and 327 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Arziki Kaura, told the court that the complainan­t, of Kubwa, on August 25, complained at the Dutsen Alhaji Police Station how the accused persons used snake and monkey and intimidate­d him on the previous day and removed the sum of N37, 000 from his pocket.

He said they also resisted arrest by the police and while at the police station, restrained people from entering the station through the same process of intimidati­on.

The prosecutor said the accused persons escaped into the ceiling but were rearrested and, in the process, destroyed several parts of the ceiling and wiring system of the building valued at N52, 000.

When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty but the judge, Mohammed Marafa, ordered they be remanded in prison custody due to the manner they behaved in court.

The case was adjourned to September 7 for their bail to be considered.

Similarly, the same persons were remanded in prison custody by the same court for allegedly stealing the sum of N30, 000 from another man through the same means.

They also pleaded not guilty to the 2-count charge of joint act and theft, offences that contradict sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Arziki Kaura, told the court that the complainan­t, one Nathan Uwamamua of Zone 7, Dutsen Alhaji, on same day, complained at the Dutsen Alhaji Police Station, that while he was buying some provision items at Dutsen Alhaji Market, the accused and one other now at large, used snake and monkey to intimidate him.

He said the accused stole the sum of N30, 000 from his pocket.

The case was also adjourned to September 7 for their bail to be considered.
