One died, two injured as Jeep plunges under bridge

- By Emma Elekwa

One person lost his life while two others were injured yesterday in a motor accident that occurred along Sani Abacha Expressway in the Central Business District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Eyewitnesses said the accident happened at about 2.00p.m. when the driver of the black coloured Esparado jeep carrying the other two victims lost control and veered off the road.

“The driver while trying to control the vehicle, veered off the road and plunged under a bridge serving as a residential base for some persons,” witnesses said.

The witnesses who varied in their submissions as per the remote causes to the accident said the accident might have happened because of dizziness.

While some said the driver was under the influence of alcoholism, others said he might have slept off on the steering.

When our reporter arrived the scene, one of them had already died while they were still been pulled out from the battered vehicle.

There was a mild drama at the scene of the incident when the driver of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) pickup driving pass the scene was nearly attacked by the angry passers-by who converged on the area as he refused to carry the casualties.

It took their forceful intervention to carry the casualties into the vehicle before he drove off to the hospital.
