NEWS Ekiti reconstitutes council on prerogative of mercy
The Ekiti State government has reconstituted Advisory Council to the Governor on Prerogatives of Mercy.
Members of the Council include the state Attorney General and Commissioner for justice, Mr. Ajayi as chairman, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Babatope Ojo, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mr. Gbenga Daramola and the Comptroller of Prisons, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Mustapha Atta.
Others are the Chief Imam of the Government House, Alhaji Rafiu Fatai, the Government House Chaplain, Pastor Seyi Olusola, who doubles as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and the Director of Administration and Supply, Mrs. Margaret Oyebola as Secretary of the Council.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Council in Ado Ekiti, the Attorney General and Commissioner for justice, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi, said the committee was reconstituted to assist the governor to exercise his discretionary powers in granting state pardon to prisoners.
Ajayi said the Advisory Council would advise the governor on issues bothering on pardon, respite, punishment and committal of sentence of convicts, adding that the gesture is expected to serve as an incentive to the inmates to be of good behaviour.
He reiterated the commitment of the Fayose-led administration to the formulation and implementation of various policies and reforms that would guarantee safety of lives and property.
