FG urged to reclaim lost public space
The Initiative for the Support and Promotion of Human Shelter (ISPHS) has called on the federal government to reclaim all public spaces across the country that have been converted to private uses.
ISPHS
Director
of Operation, Desmond Chieswe said this yesterday in Abuja during the 2015 World Habitat day celebration with the theme “Pen space for all” organized by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
He lamented the rate at which public open spaces meant for recreation and leisure have been covered into buildings, restaurants, dump-sites, mechanic workshops markets among others.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. George A. Ossi, said the celebration afford Nigeria the opportunity to refocus efforts at redressing all subtle and obvious restriction to popular access to public space, especially in this era of public change.
The Permanent Secretary represented by a director in the ministry Arc. Sani Gidaodu assured that the ministry has commences the implementation of key policies like National Housing Policy, National Urban Development Policy and Nation Building Code, adding that they are in the process of producing national housing policy to induce far-reaching reform in land administration in the country.
