Kaduna to stage first northern cricket tourney
The first Northwest cricket competition is to hold in Kaduna before end of the year, National Sports Commission (NSC) zonal coordinator for North West, Alhaji Alli Durotoye, has said.
Durotoye disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the NSC Northwest grassroots cricket train the trainer workshop and clinic for schoolchildren at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna, organised by the NSC and the Kaduna State Cricket Association.
He said the first northern states table tennis clinic for schoolchildren and table tennis competition for states and schools will hold also in Kaduna before end of October.
“We started with grassroots soccer, then volleyball, chess and now cricket. Before the end of October, the first Northern states table tennis clinic for school children and competition for Northern states and schools will hold at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
“Also, competition in cricket would come up before end of the year. All states are implored to commence preparation immediately,” he stated.
Chairman of the Kaduna State Cricket Association, who is also board member of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Dr. Yahaya Ukwenya in his address said the three days training workshop for games masters and clinic for students from various schools in Zamfara, Sokoto, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano and hosts Kaduna states as well as the FCT, was motivated by the desire to discover new talents after introducing the 500 pupils and students to the game.
