Kaduna to stage first north­ern cricket tour­ney

The first North­west cricket com­pe­ti­tion is to hold in Kaduna be­fore end of the year, Na­tional Sports Com­mis­sion (NSC) zonal co­or­di­na­tor for North West, Al­haji Alli Duro­toye, has said.

Duro­toye dis­closed this at the clos­ing cer­e­mony of the NSC North­west grass­roots cricket train the trainer work­shop and clinic for school­child­ren at the Ah­madu Bello Sta­dium Kaduna, or­gan­ised by the NSC and the Kaduna State Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion.

He said the first north­ern states ta­ble ten­nis clinic for school­child­ren and ta­ble ten­nis com­pe­ti­tion for states and schools will hold also in Kaduna be­fore end of Oc­to­ber.

“We started with grass­roots soc­cer, then vol­ley­ball, chess and now cricket. Be­fore the end of Oc­to­ber, the first North­ern states ta­ble ten­nis clinic for school chil­dren and com­pe­ti­tion for North­ern states and schools will hold at the Ah­madu Bello Sta­dium, Kaduna.

“Also, com­pe­ti­tion in cricket would come up be­fore end of the year. All states are im­plored to com­mence prepa­ra­tion im­me­di­ately,” he stated.

Chair­man of the Kaduna State Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion, who is also board mem­ber of the Nige­ria Cricket Fed­er­a­tion, Dr. Ya­haya Uk­wenya in his ad­dress said the three days train­ing work­shop for games mas­ters and clinic for stu­dents from var­i­ous schools in Zam­fara, Sokoto, Ji­gawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano and hosts Kaduna states as well as the FCT, was mo­ti­vated by the de­sire to dis­cover new tal­ents af­ter in­tro­duc­ing the 500 pupils and stu­dents to the game.
