Police parade 3 suspects over illegal possession of arms in Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command yesterday paraded three suspects over possession of fire arms, extortion and intimidation.
Parading the suspects, the command’s Public Relations officer, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin, said, “the suspects used the fire arms to extort N2 million from 22 victims.”
He said the English made double-barrel gum with seven cartridges of live ammunition was recovered from 40-yearold Kachalla Bukar. He said the suspect was using the gun to intimidate and extort money from victims.
He said the offence was jointly committed by Mustapha Mohammed, who was found with a locally made short gun allegedly given to him by one Buji Alhaji Liman, the prime suspect.
Toyin said the crime committed by the suspects contravened CAP “F” 28 of the Fire Arm Act, Section 344, 95 and Section 207 of the Panel Code.
He said the two suspects had made useful statements to the police and that once investigation was concluded, they would be charged to court.
Items recovered from the suspects include a locally made short double barrel gun with life ammunitions, a knife and charms.
While appreciating the role of the people in the arrest of the suspects, the PPRO called on the public to continue to partner with security operatives in maintaining a crime free society.
