AUN to hon­our Bilk­isu Yusuf Oct.13

The Amer­i­can Univer­sity of Nige­ria (AUN) will on Oc­to­ber 13 at its Distin­guished Jour­nal­ists’ Lec­ture Se­ries, hon­our late vet­eran jour­nal­ist and rights ac­tivist, Ha­jiya Bi­lik­isu Yusuf, who died in Saudi Ara­bia re­cently, for her con­tri­bu­tions to peace build­ing and com­mu­nity de­vel­op­ment in the North-east.

Ha­jiya Bilk­isu was a del­e­gate to the In­ter­na­tional Peace and De­vel­op­ment con­fer­ence hosted by AUN in June 2014.

At the same event, Washington Post Deputy Dig­i­tal Editor, Karen At­tiah, known her com­pre­hen­sive and in­sight­ful writ­ing on African pol­i­tics, hu­man rights, and de­vel­op­ment, will speak on: “Nige­ria af­ter Boko Haram”.

Ms. At­tiah has worked as a con­sul­tant with the World Bank on so­cial media for the Africa Re­gion, hav­ing pre­vi­ously re­ported for the As­so­ci­ated Press while in Cu­ra­cao, a Dutch Caribbean is­land.

To gain first­hand ex­pe­ri­ence with in­ter­nally dis­placed per­sons in Yola, Ms. At­tiah will be as­sist­ing with food dis­tri­bu­tion to IDPs and vis­it­ing other com­mu­nity projects hosted by univer­sity.
