Court stops EFCC from ar­rest­ing Ba­bal­akin

A Fed­eral High Court in La­gos yesterday re­strained the EFCC from ar­rest­ing Dr. Wale Ba­bal­akin, chair­man of Bi-Court­ney Lim­ited, over his al­leged in­volve­ment in a N4.7 bil­lion fraud.

Jus­tice Ibrahim Buba gave the or­der in his rul­ing on the case brought by Ba­bal­akin who had filed an ap­pli­ca­tion to stop fresh crim­i­nal pro­ceed­ings against him.

In the suit, Ba­bal­akin sought an or­der re­strain­ing the At­tor­ney Gen­eral of the Fed­er­a­tion and the EFCC from tak­ing any step to re-ar­raign him af­ter be­ing ear­lier dis­charged by another court over the same charge.

Jus­tice Buba in the rul­ing granted all the re­liefs sought by Ba­bal­akin in his ap­pli­ca­tion.

Ear­lier in Fe­bru­ary, Jus­tice La­teef Lawal-Akapo of the La­gos High Court dis­missed a 27-count charge filed by the EFCC against Ba­bal­akin and four oth­ers over the al­leged N4.7 bil­lion fraud.
