Court stops EFCC from arresting Babalakin

- From Yahaya Ibrahim, Lagos

A Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday restrained the EFCC from arresting Dr. Wale Babalakin, chairman of Bi-Courtney Limited, over his alleged involvement in a N4.7 billion fraud.

Justice Ibrahim Buba gave the order in his ruling on the case brought by Babalakin who had filed an application to stop fresh criminal proceedings against him.

In the suit, Babalakin sought an order restraining the Attorney General of the Federation and the EFCC from taking any step to re-arraign him after being earlier discharged by another court over the same charge.

Justice Buba in the ruling granted all the reliefs sought by Babalakin in his application.

Earlier in February, Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of the Lagos High Court dismissed a 27-count charge filed by the EFCC against Babalakin and four others over the alleged N4.7 billion fraud.
