ACF supports FG on stolen funds recovery

- From Andrew Agbese, Kaduna

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has commended the steps being taken by the federal government to recover funds allegedly stolen by former public office holders, saying such efforts are not only appropriate but will sanitize the system and ensure discipline in the conduct of public officers.

The Board of Trustees of the ACF met in Kaduna on Wednesday, with its chairman, Mallam Adamu M. Fika, presiding.

It applauded the international cooperation and support the federal government is receiving in the effort to recover and repatriate all stolen funds.

A statement by its national publicity secretary, Muhammadu Ibrahim, however, said the ACF considered as embarrassing, recent statements threatening the unity of the country.

“The group is particularly unhappy with the activities of MASSOB and other ethnic agitators who are fond of calling for disintegration of the country after 55 years of independence. ACF reaffirmed its belief in one Nigeria and the need for all hands to be on deck to move the nation forward,” he said.

The ACF also commended what it called the efforts of the federal government in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency through the joint multinational military task force of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, global counter terrorism support by the international community and the military and other security agencies.

It also saluted the military for repelling the recent attack on troops at Goniri in Yobe State, where it noted that many terrorists were killed and dangerous weapons recovered.

The ACF said the success being recorded by the military and other security agencies in combating insurgency in the northeast must have been as a result of the support and encouragement from the federal government and the determination of the field commanders to end the insurgency within the time frame given by the president.
