Being a fashion designer means one must always keep up to date with emerging fashion trends as well as general trends relating to fabrics, colours and shapes, a fashion designer Juwairiyah Muhammed has said.
Juwairiyah who owns El-armario wardrobe, a clothing line in Abuja told YOUTHVILLE that although fashion is an experience of art, it is also part of her life and happiness.
The 21-year-old Sociology student of Baze University, Abuja, who started her business in 2013 shortly after graduating from secondary school, said she had started designing outfits way before then.
“I started designing and sketching my clothes since 2007. But I started my clothing line in 2013 after I graduated from high school. I felt it was the right time to start because I thought it was the right time for me.
“Before then whenever my Mum was giving our clothes to the tailor she always called me to give the tailor what I wanted and that motivated me,” she said.
The young undergraduate who is inspired by the different fabrics she works with, said the business is a very lucrative one, boasting that she is today earning 100 times more profit than the amount she invested in the business.
“I started the business with N100,000 and today my gain is hundred times more,” she said. ‘Social media vital’ Juwairiyah said she has six staff specifically working to attract customers through social media, owing to its increasing and pervasive influence to Nigerians. Opportunities abound for youth The young entrepreneur, who warned youths to desist from being idle, said there is no place in a country like Nigeria that did not offer limitless opportunities for youths to take up.
She advised youth to “Always recognize your passion and go for it. Be clear about the brand proposition, support it with a marketing and communication plan, understand the importance of cash flow, funding, financing, set business goals, and always know what you want to do.”
