Boko Haram: Principal urges schools to be security conscious

- By Seun Adeuyi

As part of strategic moves to curtail the activities of Boko Haram in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Principal, Bicados International School, off Bwari road, Kubwa, Mr. Okeke Ogonna, has urged schools to be at alert and security conscious.

The principal made this known in an interview with City News in his office during the weekend.

Mr. Okeke said: “The problem with Nigerians is that we are always relaxed but when something bad happens, we sit up but after a while we relax again.”

The principal, who noted that the current bombings in the FCT could threaten the growth of the nation, stated that the time had come for Nigerians to sit up, adding that security is all about everyone being vigilant and not the duties of the security personnel alone.

While advocating the need for Nigerians to be on the lookout for anything strange in the environment, Okeke explained that the target of the “evil doers” is always a crowded place, citing the Kuje and Nyanya recent attacks as instances.

He pointed out that security posts should be constructed outside the gate of each school. “That would go a long way in preventing them from carrying out their evil plans.”

“Schools need to protect its citizens. Each school should know their staff in and out. Visitors and staff members should be screened thoroughly before they are allowed to go into the school premises and also, all car owners should be made to park their cars outside the school compound or screened before going in. They can plant bomb on a staff car,” he said.

He appealed to the federal government and wealthy individuals to provide security gadgets for schools in form of donations.
