Managing Director of Jigawa Saving and Loans, Babangida Umar Gantsa, said at the weekend that plans for the construction of 1,330 housing units by Jigawa State government had reached advanced stage.

The Managing Director, while fielding questions from newsmen in Dutse said, they had inspected sites for the project in each of the 27 local government councils and that as soon as all other formalities were concluded, construction work would commence.

He said the state government plans to build 1,080 housing units of two bedrooms in each of the local government areas as well as another set of 50 units of three bedrooms at headquarters of the five emirates. He said the project would be executed in two phases.

“Under the first phase, there will be 20 housing units of two bedrooms in each of the 27 local government areas, totalling 540 housing units. The second phase also carries same number of housing units, so when the project is completed, there will be 40 housing units of two bedrooms in each of the headquarters of the 27 local government areas, totalling 1,080 units. Also 50 housing units of three bedroom will be built in each of the headquarters of the five emirates in the state, totalling 250 units, “he said.

Gantsa said the project was expected to be completed within five months, and that the aim was not only for provision of houses but also to make them affordable.

“The houses are to be constructed by Jigawa State Housing Authority in collaboration with Jigawa Saving and Loan Ltd and financed by the Federal Mortgage Bank,” he said.
