Court re­mands 2 over kid­nap

Two peo­ple, Umaru Mo­hammed and Ibrahim Has­san, both cat­tle rear­ers, were yesterday re­manded in prison by a Mag­is­trate’s Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, for al­legedly kid­nap­ping one Us­man Sal­ihu.

The case which was trans­ferred from OkeOde Di­vi­sion to the Depart­ment of Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion and In­tel­li­gence Ilorin was re­ported to the po­lice by one Sal­ihu Mah­mud of Ol­u­fayo Fu­lani camp.

He said, one of his sons, Garba Sal­ihu, told him that some hood­lums in­vaded his ranch and force­fully kid­napped his son, Us­man.

The com­plainant added that im­me­di­ately he re­ceived the in­for­ma­tion, he quickly mo­bi­lized mem­bers of a vig­i­lante group to search for his son.

He said it was mem­bers of the vig­i­lante group that found his son’s corpse along OkeOde Share road.

It was gath­ered that dur­ing in­ter­ro­ga­tion, Us­man Sal­ihu iden­ti­fied one of the kid­napers as Umaru Mo­hammed, who is well known to him.

The pros­e­cu­tion said in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­ducted at the Depart­ment re­vealed that Umaru con­fessed to the crime and that he led them to the ar­rest of Ibrahim Has­san, his part­ner.

The ac­cused, who were ar­raigned over crim­i­nal con­spir­acy and kid­nap­ping, of­fences that con­tra­vened Sec­tions 2, 9, and 15 of Kwara State law No.6 of 2010, were re­manded at Man­dala Prison

Yard by Mag­is­trate M. K. Aluko and the case was ad­journed for fur­ther men­tion.
