Court remands 2 over kidnap
Two people, Umaru Mohammed and Ibrahim Hassan, both cattle rearers, were yesterday remanded in prison by a Magistrate’s Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, for allegedly kidnapping one Usman Salihu.
The case which was transferred from OkeOde Division to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Ilorin was reported to the police by one Salihu Mahmud of Olufayo Fulani camp.
He said, one of his sons, Garba Salihu, told him that some hoodlums invaded his ranch and forcefully kidnapped his son, Usman.
The complainant added that immediately he received the information, he quickly mobilized members of a vigilante group to search for his son.
He said it was members of the vigilante group that found his son’s corpse along OkeOde Share road.
It was gathered that during interrogation, Usman Salihu identified one of the kidnapers as Umaru Mohammed, who is well known to him.
The prosecution said investigation conducted at the Department revealed that Umaru confessed to the crime and that he led them to the arrest of Ibrahim Hassan, his partner.
The accused, who were arraigned over criminal conspiracy and kidnapping, offences that contravened Sections 2, 9, and 15 of Kwara State law No.6 of 2010, were remanded at Mandala Prison
Yard by Magistrate M. K. Aluko and the case was adjourned for further mention.
