Sen­a­tor Yusuf Baba-Ahmed has been ap­pointed Chair­man, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Na­tional Youth Ser­vice Corps (NYSC) Hope Alive Foun­da­tion.

NYSC Di­rec­tor-Gen­eral, Brig.-Gen. John­son Olawumi an­nounced this in a state­ment is­sued in Abuja on Fri­day by the NYSC Public Re­la­tions Unit.

It said the BOT, which com­prises per­sons from dif­fer­ent sec­tors of na­tional life, would be in­au­gu­rated by the in­com­ing Min­is­ter of Youth De­vel­op­ment.

The state­ment ex­plained that the foun­da­tion would be ex­pected to drive the ini­tia­tive of the scheme on post-ser­vice eco­nomic sur­vival of corps mem­bers who suf­fered per­ma­nent dis­abil­ity dur­ing ser­vice.

Ac­cord­ing to the state­ment, Olawumi praised Baba-Ahmed, who is also the Pro-Chan­cel­lor of Baze Univer­sity, Abuja, for his con­tri­bu­tion to the de­vel­op­ment of ed­u­ca­tion in the coun­try.

“The di­rec­tor-gen­eral de­scribed the stan­dard of fa­cil­i­ties in the in­sti­tu­tion as con­ge­nial for ef­fec­tive teach­ing and learn­ing,” the state­ment added.

The state­ment said the Sen­a­tor, while re­spond­ing to the ap­point­ment, ac­cepted the op­por­tu­nity given him to serve in that ca­pac­ity, de­scrib­ing it as “a great hon­our to him and the univer­sity”.

“Baba-Ahmed said he ven­tured into the ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor out of de­ter­mi­na­tion to con­trib­ute to­wards fix­ing the sys­tem in or­der for Nige­ria to re­alise its po­ten­tials and ad­dress var­i­ous chal­lenges.”
