Three hundred girls aged 16 to 17 from Jigawa State have received training aimed at improving their status and empowering them with knowledge and confidence to fend for themselves.

The eight months’ training for rural girls selected from Mallam Madori and Miga local government areas of the state was organised basically to promote inclusion of the most marginalized in the society, the girl child and people living with disability.

Presenting certificates of attendance to the beneficiaries, the state project manager of the agency that trained the girls, Mobilization for Development (M4D), Ibrahim Haruna Gombe, said supporting the girl-child through life skill programmes would help develop their capacity not only in engaging the wider society but also in providing equitable access to services for marginalized groups.

“M4D supports girls to strengthen their skills, knowledge and confidence as well as build their livelihood capabilities.

“The training improves their ability to engage the wider community and service providers to provide equitable access to services as well as introduce relevant and appropriate services for marginalized noted.

In his remark, the District Head of Mallam Madori, Dokajen Hadejia, Muhammad Saleh, charged the beneficiaries to make use of the training they received by extending similar gesture to those that were not opportuned to be trained by M4D.

He said“Extend the gesture by training other girls around you. My chiefdom is ready to give you all the necessary

groups,”

he support required in not only sustaining the programme but duplicating knowledge acquired.”

Speaking to Daily Trust, a beneficiary of the programme, Aisha Muhammad, said the eight months’ training had helped her change her perception about life because it has enabled her not only to see the reality of life from a wider horizon but also to know her basic rights and responsibilities as a citizen.
