- From Hir Joseph, Jos

The Special Task Force (STF) recovered two sets of cattle after its officers and men pursued some syndicates in parts of Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State, the spokesman said yesterday.

The STF also said it secured cash compensation for a farmer who lost crop to illegal grazing after a herder drove his cattle into a farm in Rakun village of Barkin Ladi LGA.

Captain Ikedichie Iweha said in a statement that the STF recently renamed Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) engaged the rustlers and recovered the cattle after an exchange of fire first at Lugare village of Barkin Ladi and Pinau village of Wase LGA, recovering 66 cows and 22 sheep.

He said while 52 cows and the 22 sheep belonged to one Alhaji Sale Bala of Lugare village, 14 cows belonged to one Mr. Nanbol Nimyel of Pinau village.

He said the rustlers split up the cows and led them away in small groups but tipoffs from concerned persons led to their recovery.

He said the cattle were returned to the owners with the facilitation Allah.

The statement said the troops restrained the movement of cattle belonging to one Alhaji Abdulkarim Adamu after a complaint was lodged with them by one Mr. Thomas Chollom of Rakun village that his farm was destroyed.

“A meeting was arranged between both parties by personnel of OPSH and N50,000 was estimated and paid to Mr Chollom by Alhaji Abdulkarim before the cattle were released to their owner,” the statement added.
