- By Emma Elekwa

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has solicited the collaborative efforts of various road users towards ensuring sanity on the nation’s highways, particularly during the ember months and the yuletide season.

The Kubwa Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Yusuf Abdullahi, made the appeal at the flag off of the 2015 ember months road safety

campaign in Kubwa, Abuja, tagged, “Operation Sanity: Drive Safely into 2016.”

He described the ember months as challenging, the cause of which he attributed to disregard to traffic rules and regulations including overloading, violation of speed limits and lane indiscipline by motorists.

He, however, pledged the commission’s determination towards addressing the issue.

According to the FRSC boss, the corps has massively deployed staff and logistics to the road as buildup towards effective management of traffic and to contain the perennial obstructions, gridlock and other

accompanying hazards witnessed within the period.

“We have carried out studies along critical locations within Kubwa. We have also set up the machinery to mobilize stakeholders and sensitize the motoring public as well as residents of the identified areas expected to lend support during accidents,” he tressed.

Other strategies highlighted by the unit commander include public enlightenment campaign and strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, to be complimented with the 23 Emergency Ambulance

Service Centres, and toll free 122 phone line for prompt response to traffic emergencies.
