PDP not a party of impunity - Metuh

- By Saawua Terzungwe

The national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has said the party was not about sharing money with impunity as some people think, stressing that it has the philosophy of transferring wealth to all Nigerians.

Speaking at a one-day intensive workshop on external communication for zonal publicity secretaries and some state publicity secretaries, in collaboration with the International Republican Institute (IRI) in Abuja yesterday, Metuh said the PDP remained the party that was interested in peace building across the nation.

“While some think PDP represents impunity and sharing of money, the fact that the party represents national interest has not been questioned.

“Our philosophy has been transfer of wealth for the entire populace; we pray that it will not get to the time when they will not ask this government ‘where is the money?’. Service is not restricted to when you are in power or office; democracy is all about check and balance,” Metuh said.

The PDP spokesman urged the delegates to apply integrity on information that emanate from the party, adding that: “you must level with the public; it is when Nigerians see that the party believes in the truth that they will believe you.”

Country Director of IRI, Sentell Bernes, said IRI is working to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and pledged to collaborate with the PDP, now and in the future. A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Benue State, Chief Abu King Shuluwa, yesterday posited that his party would reclaim the state in the 2019 general election.

Shuluwa in a chat with newsmen in Makurdi also debunked insinuations that the PDP is in total disarray, noting that despite the fact that the party is still shocked over losing the state to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), its structures are in place.

“Let nobody deceive himself that we have no PDP in the state. The shock of losing election is what appears to some people that the party is not on ground. We have more PDP supporters in the state than any other party, and we will wrestle power from them (APC). PDP will wrestle power in 2019,” he said.
