Kano FRSC warns underage drivers
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Kano State said it would take drastic actions against underage drivers and owners of vehicles without headlights.
The Unit Commander, RS1.22 Kano Municipal Unit, Ibrahim Baba, at a stakeholders meeting yesterday, said safety on the roads should be seen as everybody’s business.
He urged stakeholders and members of the public to support the command to curb the excesses of drivers, who according to him, are in the habit of driving at night without light and parents who give vehicles to their underage children to drive.
He said over the years, the FRSC has had to contend with those issues.
The Unit Commander who said the FRSC critical mandate is road crash prevention and making the roads safe at all times, observed that the objective of the stakeholders meeting was to give people the opportunity to tell the traffic agency what they are doing and what they are not doing.
“This will help us to measure up to the expectation of the public,” he said.
The Sector Commander, Umar Jabaka, who was represented at the meeting, noted that many lives have been lost to road crashes due to negligence and refusal to follow traffic rules. He enjoined other stakeholders which include the Police, KAROTA, NURTW, Taxi Association, VIO, HISBAH, local government chairmen, RUWASA, district heads and others that were present to support FRSC to achieve its set objectives.
