Presidency’s panel on bailout submits report

- From Mohammed Shosanya, Lagos

Secretary-General of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal said yesterday that report of the Presidency’s panel on bailout for federal public servants has been submitted.

Lawal, in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos yesterday, said based on that, the federal government would commence payment of salary arrears and allowances to civil servants soon.

Lawal, who is a member of the panel, commended the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for delivering the report on target.

“We must also express gratitude to the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr Cement Illoh, who was chairman of the panel for the way he steered affairs.

He said outstanding benefits of public servants in Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) included salary arrears, promotion arrears, allowance on transfer from post, repatriation allowance and allowance for mandatory training organised by Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) in 2010.

He said based on letters the union wrote to President Buhari, he, through the OHCSF, ordered all Federal MDAs to compile the names of affected officers within seven days.

“Members of the committee that worked on the salary arrears were drawn mainly from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria,” he added.
