Bauchi hails ap­point­ment of Yakubu as INEC chair

Peo­ple in Bauchi have ap­plauded the ap­point­ment of Pro­fes­sor Mah­mud Yakubu as the new chair­man of the In­de­pen­dent Na­tional Elec­toral Com­mis­sion (INEC) by Pres­i­dent Muham­madu Buhari.

Some of the key po­si­tions given to Bauchi State in­di­genes in­clude the Comp­trol­ler Gen­eral of Cus­toms, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd), Chief of Air Staff, AVM Abubakar Sadiq and Mal­lam Adamu Adamu, the min­is­te­rial nom­i­nee from the state.

State chair­man of the APC, Al­haji Uba Nana, who spoke to Daily Trust on tele­phone, said they were grate­ful be­cause more of their sons were be­ing rec­og­nized.

He com­mended

Pres­i­dent Muham­madu Buhari for the recog­ni­tion and ful­fill­ment of his prom­ises to the peo­ple of Bauchi State.

The pres­i­dent was re­ported to have said dur­ing his cam­paign that Bauchi State oc­cu­pies a spe­cial place in his heart.

A Bauchi res­i­dent, Atayyib Mah­mud, who also spoke to Daily Trust, de­scribed the new INEC chair­man as an hon­est and up­right man.

An­other res­i­dent, Ti­tus Ezekiel, de­scribed the ap­point­ment of Pro­fes­sor Mah­mud as ir­rel­e­vant as he has lost touch with the peo­ple of Bauchi State.

“How­ever, Buhari has seen some­thing and has cho­sen him. We pray that he will work as ex­pected by the pres­i­dent,” he said.
