Bauchi hails appointment of Yakubu as INEC chair
People in Bauchi have applauded the appointment of Professor Mahmud Yakubu as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Some of the key positions given to Bauchi State indigenes include the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd), Chief of Air Staff, AVM Abubakar Sadiq and Mallam Adamu Adamu, the ministerial nominee from the state.
State chairman of the APC, Alhaji Uba Nana, who spoke to Daily Trust on telephone, said they were grateful because more of their sons were being recognized.
He commended
President Muhammadu Buhari for the recognition and fulfillment of his promises to the people of Bauchi State.
The president was reported to have said during his campaign that Bauchi State occupies a special place in his heart.
A Bauchi resident, Atayyib Mahmud, who also spoke to Daily Trust, described the new INEC chairman as an honest and upright man.
Another resident, Titus Ezekiel, described the appointment of Professor Mahmud as irrelevant as he has lost touch with the people of Bauchi State.
“However, Buhari has seen something and has chosen him. We pray that he will work as expected by the president,” he said.
