Or­ganic fer­til­izer, way to go for Nige­ria’s agro sec­tor

Farm­ers have been ad­vised to em­brace the use of or­ganic fer­til­izer in agri­cul­tural pro­duc­tion to guar­an­tee safety of foods.

Head, Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Strat­egy, Mr. Un­wana Sun­day, made the call at the 3rd African Or­ganic Con­fer­ence or­gan­ised by the as­so­ci­a­tion of Or­ganic Agri­cul­ture Prac­ti­tion­ers of Nige­ria (NOAN).

The event with the theme, “Achiev­ing So­cial and Eco­nomic De­vel­op­ment Through Eco­log­i­cal and Or­ganic Agri­cul­ture Al­ter­na­tive’ was sup­ported by the Fed­eral Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture and other rep­utable in­ter­na­tional or­ga­ni­za­tions and in­sti­tu­tions in­volved in or­ganic agri­cul­ture prac­tice.

Sev­eral in­ter­na­tional and lo­cal ex­hibitors had their var­i­ous or­ganic pro­duce, prod­ucts and ser­vices dis­played on their re­spec­tive stands at the event at the Sher­a­ton Ho­tel and Tow­ers, Ikeja, Lagos.

Speak­ing on the need for African coun­tries to em­brace or­ganic agri­cul­ture prac­tices, Sun­day said Alfa Life Or­ganic Fer­til­izer In­ter­na­tional, a Nige­ria-based com­pany in part­ner­ship with a Malaysian manufacturing com­pany has brought to the coun­try, var­i­ous brands of in­no­va­tive farm in­puts.

He said Alfa Life Or­ganic Fer­til­izer is for­ti­fied to make farm­ing a re­ward­ing ven­ture at any level of farm­ing in Africa. For in­stance, the prod­uct is100% chem­i­cal free, saves stor­age cost up to 99%, easy to carry and re­duces cost of trans­porta­tion up to 97% against other types of fer­til­iz­ers in the coun­try.

“Our prod­uct - Alfa Life Or­ganic Fer­til­izer - has been de­scribed as ‘magic fer­til­izer’ be­cause it is a great farm in­put ca­pa­ble of in­creas­ing crop yield by 200% against con­trol and pro­tect soil fer­til­ity. We have also done se­ries of field tri­als, test on Nige­rian based crops and soil and the re­sults are im­pres­sive,” he said.
