Organic fertilizer, way to go for Nigeria’s agro sector

Farmers have been advised to embrace the use of organic fertilizer in agricultur­al production to guarantee safety of foods.

Head, Communicat­ion and Strategy, Mr. Unwana Sunday, made the call at the 3rd African Organic Conference organised by the associatio­n of Organic Agricultur­e Practition­ers of Nigeria (NOAN).

The event with the theme, “Achieving Social and Economic Developmen­t Through Ecological and Organic Agricultur­e Alternativ­e’ was supported by the Federal Ministry of Agricultur­e and other reputable internatio­nal organizati­ons and institutio­ns involved in organic agricultur­e practice.

Several internatio­nal and local exhibitors had their various organic produce, products and services displayed on their respective stands at the event at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking on the need for African countries to embrace organic agricultur­e practices, Sunday said Alfa Life Organic Fertilizer Internatio­nal, a Nigeria-based company in partnershi­p with a Malaysian manufactur­ing company has brought to the country, various brands of innovative farm inputs.

He said Alfa Life Organic Fertilizer is fortified to make farming a rewarding venture at any level of farming in Africa. For instance, the product is100% chemical free, saves storage cost up to 99%, easy to carry and reduces cost of transporta­tion up to 97% against other types of fertilizer­s in the country.

“Our product - Alfa Life Organic Fertilizer - has been described as ‘magic fertilizer’ because it is a great farm input capable of increasing crop yield by 200% against control and protect soil fertility. We have also done series of field trials, test on Nigerian based crops and soil and the results are impressive,” he said.
