Lady escapes rapist in Mabushi

- By Ogechi Jaiyesimi

A27-year-old fashion designer, Anoyi Joy, during the week escaped from a man who attacked her with the intention of raping her in Gishiri, Mabushi.

According to the victim, who spoke to our reporter exclusively, she was at a friend’s album launch at Unity Fountain when suddenly a young man who claimed to be the driver of a House of Representatives member approached her and claimed to have been sent by his boss to call her attention.

She said the driver identified himself as Pius and that his boss who is a federal legislator has been watching her but could not approach her direct because of his position in the society.

“He requested for my phone number and I obliged him. The following day, the legislator contacted me and insisted we see that day. As a fashion designer, I was eager to see him. He called me and insisted we meet at NEXT Cash and Carry. I closed very late that day but I said since I was going to Kubwa, I decided to stop by the supermarket,” she said.

She revealed that when she drove to the supermarket, she called the legislator who told her that his driver would pick her up and the driver eventually did.

She said the driver came, entered her car and ordered her to drive to a place in Gishiri where the road ends. She then asked him where his boss was and that was when he grabbed her.

“I started begging God to deliver me because I thought I was going to be killed since the incident happened around 8.00p.m.and there was nobody around. I ran out from the car and entered a bush and was screaming before I got to the police station and my car was subsequently recovered by the Mabushi police division.

When contacted, Mabushi Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Ayobami Surajudeen, confirmed the incident and stated that the criminal approached her and claimed that his master wanted to be her friend and they exchanged numbers.
