Maitama po­lice ar­rest im­per­son­ator

FCT Po­lice Com­mand yes­ter­day pa­raded a 70-year-old man, Adamu Sule, for de­fraud­ing un­sus­pect­ing mem­bers of the pub­lic and pos­ing to mem­bers of the pub­lic as the Spe­cial Ad­viser to the Pres­i­dent on Defence Mat­ters.

The FCT Po­lice Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent An­juguri Man­zah, while parad­ing the sus­pect, said po­lice op­er­a­tives at­tached to Maitama Divi­sion, act­ing on a tip-off ar­rested one Col Adamu Sule (rtd) who claimed to be the Spe­cial Ad­viser to the Pres­i­dent on Defence Mat­ters.

The PPRO said the sus­pect who spe­cial­ized in de­fraud­ing in­flu­en­tial mem­bers of the pub­lic and the pri­vate sec­tor, was ar­rested in a house in Maitama area where he claimed to have gone to meet with a former state gover­nor.

“Upon his ar­rest, the sus­pect con­fessed to the po­lice that the claim that he served in the army and that he is the se­nior spe­cial ad­viser to the pres­i­dent were all false. He also con­fessed that he only hid un­der that guise to so­licit for juicy con­tracts or financial favour from his high pro­file vic­tims.”

A Maitama po­lice source told our reporter that the man had de­frauded many ex-gov­er­nors and law­mak­ers who he promised to help se­cure con­tracts from the fed­eral gov­ern­ment, mil­lions of naira.

City News gath­ered that when some of the vic­tims re­ported his fraud­u­lent ac­tiv­i­ties to the po­lice, they laid siege on him and ar­rested him while he was wait­ing to de­fraud an­other ex-gover­nor.

An­juguri said that the sus­pect has been trans­ferred to the Com­mand Crim­i­nal In­tel­li­gence and In­ves­ti­ga­tion Depart­ment for fur­ther in­ter­ro­ga­tion, and that ex­hibits re­cov­ered from him in­cluded one fake iden­tify card bear­ing Col. Adamu Sule, Se­nior Spe­cial Ad­viser to the Pres­i­dent and five com­pli­men­tary cards bear­ing Col. Adamu Sule (rtd).
