One dies as sup­port­ers usher new Ooni to Ile-Ife

One per­son died near the Ife toll­gate while sev­eral oth­ers sus­tained in­juries yes­ter­day as the Ooni-elect Adey­eye Ogun­wusi en­tered the town to be­gin corona­tion rites.

Though there were heavy se­cu­rity pres­ence as the Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice in the state and the Com­man­dant of the Nige­ria Se­cu­rity and Civil Defence Corps su­per­vised their men yet they could not man­age the traf­fic sit­u­a­tion as ex­cited driv­ers drove very reck­lessly.

Daily Trust cor­re­spon­dent saw a scene of ac­ci­dent where a life­less body of an uniden­ti­fied man was ly­ing be­side the road.

While some peo­ple made ef­fort to evac­u­ate the in­jured to hospi­tal, the one man killed by a car was left hav­ing dis­cov­ered that he was dead.

In other parts of the town, cel­e­bra­tion con­tin­ued as res­i­dents thronged drink­ing joints, win­ing and din­ing as they dis­cuss the per­son­al­ity of their new monarch.

The fam­ily com­pound of the Ogun­wu­sis at Agbe­degbede area was also in cel­e­bra­tion good as guests were en­ter­tained there.

Former Pres­i­dent Oluse­gun Obasanjo was sighted at the fam­ily house of the new monarch among other guests.

Po­lice­men were sta­tioned at the fam­ily house of the new monarch to en­sure safety of lives and prop­erty there.
