Tribunal upholds Agbaje’s election in Oyo

- From Dele Ogunyemi, Ibadan

The state House of Assembly elections petition tribunal sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State has upheld the election of Bolanle Agbaje of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Ibadan North Constituency.

Agbaje’s victory in the April 11, 2015 poll was challenged by Babatunde Olaniyan of the Accord Party.

In his petition, Olaniyan, alleged among others, that that Agbaje was not the candidate that scored the highest number of votes in the APC primary and the general elections.

Counsel to the petitioners also argued that the election was marred by irregularities, rigging and noncompliance with the provisions of the electoral act.

But the tribunal, headed by Hon. Justice A. M. Abubakar, in its judgment that lasted over one hour trashed out the allegations brought before it by the petitioners based on lack of enough evidence to prove the allegations.
