Driver dies, 14 in­jured in head-on col­li­sion at Gada-Biyu

Adriver was trapped to death, while 14 other pas­sen­gers sus­tained var­i­ous de­grees of in­juries af­ter two ve­hi­cles col­lided head-on at Gada-Biyu vil­lage, on the Abuja-Lokoja ex­press­way Tues­day evening.

A wit­ness said the crash hap­pened around 6:23p.m. amid heavy down­pour when an 18-seater Toy­ota Hi­ace bus with reg­is­tra­tion num­ber AAA 734 XF on speed over­took an­other ve­hi­cle and col­lided with an on­com­ing Toy­ota Si­enna car with reg­is­tra­tion num­ber KUJ 75 AJ.

He said the 18-seater bus was com­ing from Gwag­wal­ada axis, while the Si­enna bus was com­ing from Lokoja end and they col­lided at a sec­tion of the road where there is a road di­ver­sion.

He said pas­sen­gers of the bus were crit­i­cally in­jured, while the driver was trapped to death by the steer­ing wheel.

Our reporter, who ar­rived the scene shortly af­ter the ac­ci­dent, ob­served as some sym­pa­thiz­ers strug­gled to re­move some of the in­jured pas­sen­gers out ve­hi­cles.

When con­tacted, the unit com­man­der of the Fed­eral Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Moses Audu, con­firmed the ac­ci­dent, say­ing 15 per­sons, com­pris­ing 11 males and four fe­males were af­fected in the crash.

of the two Gen­eral Hospi­tal morgue, while the 14 in­jured peo­ple were taken to Abaji Gen­eral hospi­tal for med­i­cal at­ten­tion.

The FRSC com­man­der fur­ther dis­closed that one per­son died while 19 oth­ers sus­tained in­juries in an­other mo­tor ac­ci­dent which oc­curred on Satur­day af­ter­noon at Ahoko vil­lage, on the Abuja-Lokoja ex­press­way.
