Police arraign woman for stealing jewelry

Police in Kubwa have arraigned a 32-yearold woman before an Abuja Grade 1 Area court for allegedly stealing gold jewelry belonging to one Laure Abdullahi in Kubwa, a satellite town of the FCT,

Aisha Umar of Dei-dei, Abuja, was charged with theft, offence contrary to Section 287 of the penal code.

The police prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainan­t, of Phase 2, Site 1, Kubwa, on October 9, reported at the Kubwa Police Station that the accused, on October 2, acted in a dubious manner and stole her gold jewelry valued at N100,000.

When the charge was read to the accused, she pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with one reasonable surety who must be resident within the court jurisdicti­on.

The case was adjourned to December 2 for hearing.

Similarly, a 45-year-old man was arraigned before the same court for allegedly converting the sum of N65,000 meant for renting a one-room apartment to his personal use.

Levis Abraham of Byhazin across, Kubwa, was charged with cheating, an offence contrary to Section 322 of the penal code.

The police prosecutor, DSP Egwu Anthony, told the court that the complainan­t, one Abigail Eje of Pipeline, Kubwa, on September 30, reported at the Kubwa Police Station that she gave the sum of N65,000 to the accused to rent a one-room apartment for her.

He said the accused dishonestl­y converted the said money to his personal use.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N150,000 by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with one reasonable surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdicti­on.

The case was adjourned to December 2 for hearing.
