Po­lice ar­raign woman for steal­ing jew­elry

Po­lice in Kubwa have ar­raigned a 32-yearold woman be­fore an Abuja Grade 1 Area court for al­legedly steal­ing gold jew­elry be­long­ing to one Laure Ab­dul­lahi in Kubwa, a satel­lite town of the FCT,

Aisha Umar of Dei-dei, Abuja, was charged with theft, of­fence con­trary to Sec­tion 287 of the pe­nal code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, Baba­jide Ola­nipekun, told the court that the com­plainant, of Phase 2, Site 1, Kubwa, on Oc­to­ber 9, re­ported at the Kubwa Po­lice Sta­tion that the ac­cused, on Oc­to­ber 2, acted in a du­bi­ous man­ner and stole her gold jew­elry val­ued at N100,000.

When the charge was read to the ac­cused, she pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 by the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa, with one rea­son­able surety who must be res­i­dent within the court ju­ris­dic­tion.

The case was ad­journed to De­cem­ber 2 for hear­ing.

Sim­i­larly, a 45-year-old man was ar­raigned be­fore the same court for al­legedly con­vert­ing the sum of N65,000 meant for rent­ing a one-room apart­ment to his per­sonal use.

Le­vis Abra­ham of By­hazin across, Kubwa, was charged with cheat­ing, an of­fence con­trary to Sec­tion 322 of the pe­nal code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, DSP Egwu An­thony, told the court that the com­plainant, one Abi­gail Eje of Pipe­line, Kubwa, on Septem­ber 30, re­ported at the Kubwa Po­lice Sta­tion that she gave the sum of N65,000 to the ac­cused to rent a one-room apart­ment for her.

He said the ac­cused dis­hon­estly con­verted the said money to his per­sonal use.

When the charge was read to the ac­cused, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N150,000 by the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa, with one rea­son­able surety who must be res­i­dent within the court’s ju­ris­dic­tion.

The case was ad­journed to De­cem­ber 2 for hear­ing.
