Giwa go second after Wikki win

Giwa Football Club yesterday picked the maximum points against Wikki Tourists in one of the Week 35 games of the Nigeria Premier League in a five goals thriller in Jos to move to the second spot on the log with 60 points.

Giwa came from behind to beat the visitors who opened the goal account through Idris Sabo in the 10th minute. Saleh Mohammed equalised for the home side from the spot in the 23rd minute, while Harrison Madu restored Wikki’s leadership in the 38th minute before Amos Gyan’s brace in the 42nd and added time of the second stanza ensured victory for the Jos soccer outfit to boost their continenta­l ticket ambition.

Enyimba FC also maintained their hold on the top spot with a 1-0 victory over relegation threatened Kwara United in Aba to take their point haul to 65. Enyimba’s captain Chinedu Udoji was the hero of the day as headed home Ezekiel Bassey’s corner kick in the 22nd minute of the encounter for the only goal of the match to keep his club five points lead on the table.

The encounter between FC Taraba and Nasarawa United in Jalingo was disrupted by angry fans in the 80th minute of play.

In Kano, Pillars also came from behind to send home 10-man Rangers FC empty handed with a 2-1 victory against the flying antelopes that drew the first blood in the 34th minute through Bobby Clement.

Emeka Eze was given the marching order by the centre referee in the 42nd minute of the game before Shobowale Azeez’s brace in the 45th and 50th minutes of the game gave the defending champions the victory.

In Port Harcourt, Sharks FC and Dolphins FC won their home games against Shooting Stars and ElKanemi Warriors 2-1 and 2-0 respective­ly.

Sharks scored the three goals in the encounter against Shooting as their defender scored an own goal in the 43rd minute before Fredrick Obomate brace in the 48th and 65th minute brought respite to the oil city fans.

Dolphins recorded the fastest goal of the day with a 35seconds goal by Christian Weli and substitute Asamoah Godbless sealed the victory with his 70th minute strike against the warriors from Maiduguri.

In the other games Akwa United FC defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1, FC IfeanyiUba­h won the oriental derby against Heartland in Nnewi with a lone goal, Bayelsa United beat Abia Warriors 1-0 in Oghara.

Lobi Stars will take on Warri Wolves today in Makurdi.
