Giwa go sec­ond af­ter Wikki win

Giwa Foot­ball Club yes­ter­day picked the max­i­mum points against Wikki Tourists in one of the Week 35 games of the Nige­ria Pre­mier League in a five goals thriller in Jos to move to the sec­ond spot on the log with 60 points.

Giwa came from be­hind to beat the vis­i­tors who opened the goal ac­count through Idris Sabo in the 10th minute. Saleh Mo­hammed equalised for the home side from the spot in the 23rd minute, while Harrison Madu re­stored Wikki’s lead­er­ship in the 38th minute be­fore Amos Gyan’s brace in the 42nd and added time of the sec­ond stanza en­sured vic­tory for the Jos soc­cer out­fit to boost their con­ti­nen­tal ticket am­bi­tion.

Eny­imba FC also main­tained their hold on the top spot with a 1-0 vic­tory over rel­e­ga­tion threat­ened Kwara United in Aba to take their point haul to 65. Eny­imba’s cap­tain Chinedu Udoji was the hero of the day as headed home Ezekiel Bassey’s cor­ner kick in the 22nd minute of the en­counter for the only goal of the match to keep his club five points lead on the ta­ble.

The en­counter be­tween FC Taraba and Nasarawa United in Jalingo was dis­rupted by an­gry fans in the 80th minute of play.

In Kano, Pil­lars also came from be­hind to send home 10-man Rangers FC empty handed with a 2-1 vic­tory against the fly­ing an­telopes that drew the first blood in the 34th minute through Bobby Cle­ment.

Emeka Eze was given the march­ing or­der by the cen­tre referee in the 42nd minute of the game be­fore Shobowale Azeez’s brace in the 45th and 50th min­utes of the game gave the de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons the vic­tory.

In Port Har­court, Sharks FC and Dol­phins FC won their home games against Shoot­ing Stars and ElKanemi War­riors 2-1 and 2-0 re­spec­tively.

Sharks scored the three goals in the en­counter against Shoot­ing as their de­fender scored an own goal in the 43rd minute be­fore Fredrick Obo­mate brace in the 48th and 65th minute brought respite to the oil city fans.

Dol­phins recorded the fastest goal of the day with a 35sec­onds goal by Chris­tian Weli and sub­sti­tute Asamoah God­b­less sealed the vic­tory with his 70th minute strike against the war­riors from Maiduguri.

In the other games Akwa United FC de­feated Sun­shine Stars 2-1, FC Ifeany­iUbah won the ori­en­tal derby against Heart­land in Nnewi with a lone goal, Bayelsa United beat Abia War­riors 1-0 in Oghara.

Lobi Stars will take on Warri Wolves to­day in Makurdi.
