Bayelsa: Mother of Sylva’s running mate abducted
Ahead of the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa state, gunmen have kidnapped the 103- yearold mother of Mr.
Wilberforce Igiri, running mate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva.
Daily Trust learnt that the gunmen whisked the woman away in the wee hours of yesterday from her home located at Foropa, in Southern Ijaw Local government Area. They shot sporadically to scare away passersby.
The development has thrown panic into the camp of the APC in the state, even as observers are divided on whether the incident is politically motivated.
APC supporters and other sympathizers have been trooping to the residence of the son of the woman, and the running mate to Sylva, situated off Ox bow road, Swali in Yenagoa.
As at the time of filing this report however, Wilberforce who is the eldest son of the woman had not confirmed the development.
No group has claimed responsibility, nor made any contact with the family.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Asinim Bautswat said the command was yet to be briefed on the incident.
