No al­ter­na­tive to civil ser­vice re­form - HoSF

The act­ing Head of the Civil Ser­vice of the Fed­er­a­tion (HoSF) Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, has said that there was no al­ter­na­tive to re­form in the Civil Ser­vice.

She said civil ser­vants must evolve in­no­va­tive and proac­tive strate­gies to meet the present gov­ern­ment’s fo­cus and drive.

Oyo-Ita made the re­marks yes­ter­day in Abuja while pre­sent­ing her in­au­gu­ral ad­dress at the ex­tra-or­di­nary ser­vice wide meet­ing of fed­eral per­ma­nent sec­re­taries.

She also un­veil a new agenda that tagged work­ers as EPIC (Ef­fi­cient, Pro­duc­tive, In­cor­rupt­ible and Cit­i­zen-Cen­tered) civil ser­vant.

“At a time like this when our coun­try is fac­ing var­i­ous chal­lenges, the civil ser­vice must be in­no­va­tive and proac­tive by de­vis­ing strate­gies and ac­tion plans that will as­sist the gov­ern­ment in ad­dress­ing this chal­lenges. It is our col­lec­tive re­spon­si­bil­ity to pro­tect our im­age, en­sure pub­lic con­fi­dence and trust in us oth­er­wise, we will be left out of the scheme of things.

“We have no al­ter­na­tive but to be in­no­va­tive. We are there­fore ex­pected to pro­vide qual­ity ser­vice in timely, pro­fes­sional and cost ef­fec­tive man­ner,” Oyo-Ita said.

She said that Nige­ri­ans are not ex­pect­ing any­thing less and most es­pe­cially at this time when ex­pec­ta­tions of the peo­ple on the new gov­ern­ment are huge, apart from the ex­pec­ta­tions of the in­ter­na­tional com­mu­nity, that Nige­ria should lead Africa to achieve the new set of Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment Goals as the largest econ­omy in Africa.
