From Dickson S. Adama, Kaduna he Kaduna State Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Manzo Daniel Maigari has called on youth to intensify their efforts in agricultural production to eradicate hunger, saying Nigeria will have no future without a robust sector.

Speaking in Kaduna at a rally organised by the Arewa Young Farmers Initiative (AYFI) to commemorate the World Food Day, the Commissioner said he is always happy to see young people in the state picking interest in farming and going all the way to make it a profession.

“I urge youth to be productive and to intensify their efforts in agricultural production in order to eradicate hunger. In truth, Nigeria will have no future without developing its agricultural sector. When they take farming as

Ta profession, it gives us hope about agriculture in this country as our farmers now are aging.” He said government has good plans to boost agriculture, including plans to train youth on different agricultural activities in order to bring hunger to the barest minimum.

The AYFI Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Salisu said agriculture was Nigeria’s major source of income before the oil boom, stressing that it has the capacity of providing job opportunities to over 70 per cent of youth.

He noted that 60 per cent of cultivable land area in Nigeria is yet to be utilized, but that this administration has shown signs of giving priority to agriculture.

Salisu said Governor Nasir El-Rufai has declared a special package for people willing to embrace agriculture as a means of survival and as a means of wealth creation.
