Kwara deploys 20 trucks for refuse disposal
The Kwara State government yesterday deployed additional 20 trucks to clear refuse in Ilorin and environs as an interim measure, pending the identification of fresh dumpsites.
The development follows the closure of existing dumpsites by the host communities. In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, the state government expressed confidence that with the deployment of additional refuse collection trucks, the refuse across Ilorin metropolis will be cleared within 48 hours.
The statement said ten trucks were working from Odoota through Baaboko, Agaka and Ojaoba, while the other ten trucks are on the Judge’s quarters to Zango-Maraba-Emirs Road and Oja oba axis, and will be deployed to other routes for the rest of the week.
It therefore called on residents in the metropolis to exercise patience as the situation will be remedied by next Wednesday.
The state government also reassured the public that it was discussing with the communities where the dumpsites are currently located as well as the additional six proposed sites with a view tackling concerns about the dumpsites.
While reiterating it’s commitment to promoting the welfare of all communities in the state, the statement said government officials were working round the clock to ensure that Kwara State’s reputation for cleanliness is restored within the shortest possible time.
