Aformer Head of State, retired General Yakubu Gowon has noted that the spate of insecurity and corruption in the country portends great danger for the nation’s youths.

He stated that other issues that relate to moral decadence, sexual perversion and restiveness call for deep reflection.

The former Head of State who raised the concerns at the 25th anniversary of Scripture Union (SU) in Abuja, warned that there was need to arrest the tide through massive prayer campaign and action.

He charged Nigerians to rise up to the occasion to guarantee nation’s unity and coexistence.

Gowon, who was represented by the national secretary of Nigeria Prays, Evangelist Austin Kemie, paid glowing tribute to the leadership of the SU, Abuja area for working to impact godly values and virtues, as well as propagation of God’s word.

“If we do not rise to bring our youths into the path of rectitude, then their future prospects will appear gloomy and we cannot build a virile nation of trust, integrity and good governance,” he said.

He urged the body to keep the flame burning and to persevere in their commitment towards teaching God’s Word as well as impacting the institutions, communities and churches.

Earlier, the body’s National chairman, Engineer Ekpo Etim Ekpo challenged members of the Union to continue to reach out to the world with God’s word and to continue with the discipleship task.
