Why we’re excited by VC’s exit – LASU lecturers
Lecturers under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Lagos State University (LASU) chapter have expressed joy over the expiration of the tenure of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa.
The Vice Chancellor’s tenure ended on Saturday, October 31, Daily Trust gathered.
In an interview with our correspondent, the
Chairman, LASUASUU, Idris Adekunle, who also had a running battle with the VC over the controversial withdrawal of his Doctorate Degree (PhD), said the entire university community, especially the lecturers were happy with the expiration of Obafunwa’s term of office.
“Yes, our people happy. The LASU university community is happy and by extension, the lecturers are also happy. We are happy because the era of incompetence is over. We are happy because the era of nepotism is over. We are also happy that the era of victimisation is over,” Idris said.
Another lecturer who pleaded anonymity said, though it is normal for a Vice Chancellor to vacate his office at the expiration of his tenure, the lecturers were happy in this instance because Obafunwa showed “gross incompetence in varsity management”.
It would be recalled that Prof. Obafunwa tenure, just like many of his predecessors were rocked by crises. A civil right group on the campus, Joint Action Front (JAC) last week declared a seven-day fast to ensure the exit of the Vice Chancellor.
