Stock market transactio­ns record lowest

The lull that has been tearing the Nigerian stock market for almost a year is taking another dimension when the total transactio­ns on the Nigerian bourse during the month of September recorded the lowest figure of amount.

According to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) polls trading figures from major custodians and market operators on their Foreign Portfolio Investment­s (FPI) released over the weekend shows that the total transactio­ns of N129.9 billion recorded in September is the lowest in the year.

The figure shows enormous discrepanc­y when compared to N522.74 billion total transactio­ns recorded during the same period of 2014.

Also, the total foreign transactio­ns at the nation’s bourse decreased to N69.33 billion in September 2015 from N81.13 billion at the end of August 2015; representi­ng a decrease of 14.54 per cent. While the total domestics transactio­ns also decreased to N60.59 billion in September from N64.56 billion it made in August, translatin­g to a decrease of 6.15 per cent.

Domestic investors conceded about 6.72 per cent of trading to foreign investors compared to the 11.38 per cent they conceded in the previous month as domestic transactio­ns increased from 44.31 per cent to 46.64 per cent while FPI transactio­ns decreased from 55.69 per cent to 53.36 per cent over the same period.

Foreign portfolio investors’ inflows accounted for 22.52 per cent of total transactio­ns while the outflows accounted for 30.84 per cent of the total transactio­ns in September 2015.
