Police task traditiona­l rulers on crime

The Gwagwalada Area Council police Area Commander, Assistant Commission­er of Police (ACP) Abiwanja Olufemi, has appealed to traditiona­l rulers and security guards to always parley with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in order to tackle crimes in the council.

Speaking at a sensitizat­ion workshop organized by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the area in collaborat­ion with the Gwagwalada area command, Olufemi also called on artisans, hoteliers, market men/women, and corporate organizati­ons amongst others to parley with the police as well as PCRC, by providing useful informatio­n that will lead to the arrest of criminals in the area.

He said the sensitizat­ion workshop was aimed at tackling the peculiar security challenges in Gwagwalada and its environs, adding that it would also strengthen partnershi­p and problem solving strategy for the police area command and residents of the council.

Olufemi also advised residents to always maintain cordial relationsh­ip with the police and the PCRC in the area of tackling and preventing crime.

Also speaking, chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in charge of Gwagwalada Area Command, Dr. John Ardey, noted that community policing brings police as well as citizens together in order to further combat crimes as well as arrest neighborho­ods obstacles in the territory.

He added that community policing gives the citizens more control over the quality of life at their various communitie­s, as according to him, community policing is seen as an effective way to promote public safety as well as to enhance the quality of life in the society.

He assured that PCRC would continue to partner with police in order to reposition community policing in the area, while charging the police to maintain a greater relationsh­ip with the citizens, for the sake of attaining greater security.
