8 months unpaid salaries: Imo law officers threaten strike

Law officers under the Ministry of Justice in Imo State have threatened to embark on indefinite strike if the state government fails to pay them their salaries and allowances and recall their suspended directors.

In a protest letter delivered by the protesters to Governor Rochs Okorocha through his deputy chief of staff in charge of administra­tion Mr.Kingsely Uju and Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties Barr.Emma Ezebuiro during their protest match to the Government House, the law officers said until their salaries and allowances were paid in full, they would remain on strike.

The protest letter jointly endorsed by the state chairman of Law Officers Associatio­n of Nigeria Pius Nwanyanwu and Secretary Kelechi Ejiofor demanded immediate recall of all their suspended legal directors .

The protesters turned out in large numbers in their usual law dress chanting songs and carrying placards which read, “Pay us our 8 months salary”, “The only lawyers that defend the government”, among others.

Addressing the protesting law officers, two political aides to the governor: deputy chief of staff in charge of administra­tion Mr Kingsley Uju and SSA special duties, Barr Emma Ezebuiro appealed to the officers for patience.

They promised to convey the officers’ demands to the governor for necessary actions.
