Corps member’s mother robbed at Kubwa

-

A 40-year-old woman was robbed at the wee hours of Monday at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) junction, Kubwa, along the Abuja-Zuba expressway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The victim, simply identified as Rosemary, was said to have visited the town from Otukpo, Benue State, to witness the passing out ceremony of her daughter from the three-week orientation exercise of the 2015 NYSC Batch B when the incident happened. The orientation camp is located at Kubwa.

City News reliably gathered that Rosemary, who boarded a bus Sunday night, got to Kubwa about 1:00a.m. on Monday and alighted at the NYSC junction, where a man, with two accomplices, approached her with a request to assist her carry her luggage.

Our source said the woman willingly obliged him as she was already exhausted following a long and hectic journey.

“He actually assisted the woman to carry her luggage, but suddenly disappeared with the bag as soon as they crossed the ever-busy expressway,” the source said.

According to the source, immediately she discovered that the man had run away with her luggage, she raised the alarm, which attracted other passersby who alerted the police.

City News, however, learnt that the police arrested the suspect with the luggage, while the other accomplices escaped.

Similarly, the police arrested a 27-year-old guard on Tuesday while attempting to escape with some musical equipment stolen from a studio in Byazhin area of the town.

The suspect was arrested about 9:00p.m. following an alarm raised by the victim, who suddenly came back to his shop and discovered that his studio had been burgled.

City News learnt that the suspect, who used to reside in the area, parked the stolen items in a Ghana-must-go bag and was about to board a motorcycle when he was apprehended.

Confirming both incidents, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, said the suspects were in police custody and would be charged to court.

He said the sum of N10, 000 and two handsets were among the items recovered from the suspect that robbed the woman, while a sound system, DVD, CPU and window curtains were recovered from the guard.
