Wuse market traders give loans to cooperative groups

-

The Wuse Market Traders Association ( WMTA) has supported some cooperative groups in the market with noninterest loans, recently.

Presenting the cheques to representatives of the groups, chairman of the WMTA, Mr. Okorie Ikechukwu Raphael, said the association decided to support the co-operative groups to enable them become self-reliant.

He said the gesture would help in enhancing peaceful co-existence between market traders and co-operative groups.

Raphael said the non-interest loan was part of the association’s desire to carry every trader in the market along, adding that the gesture was in line with government’s efforts at empowering the vulnerable in the society.

“Whenever you are in a community and you do not support the downtrodden, you will deepen enmity and hatred. So we think it is better to bring such people closer to us,” he said.

Among the beneficiaries of the loan were Unity Chicken Cooperative Society, Wuse Market Braiders, Jarmai Co-operative Society, Wuse Butchers Association, as well as Fruits and Vegetable Association. They were presented a cheque of N750, 000 each.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, secretary of the Unity Chicken Sellers Association, Malam Musa Suleiman, thanked the traders for the gesture, adding that it would boost their businesses.

Over 200 wheelbarrows were also distributed to members of the Wheelbarrow Pushers Association at the market.
