2 APC councillorship aspirants, 87 others defect to PDP in Kwali

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

Two defeated councillorship aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ishaya Abashe Jonathan and Usman Danlami Godwin and 87 members of the party at Kilankwa ward of Kwali Area Council in Abuja, Friday defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Jonathan claimed that he decided to lead some members of the APC to the PDP because of injustice allegedly meted out to him during the primary APC.

He said they saw the need to seek another political platform, even as he said they were driven by the achievements of the PDP led administration under the leadership of Mr. Ibrahim Daniel.

He stated that the present PDP administration has been able to provide amenities, which he said include, good road network, provision of scholarships, and construction of clinics, provision of drugs and free surgery among others, despite challenges of funds within the last two years.

“I contested for councillorship but was denied ticket. I and some members of APC were driven to join because of the achievements of the present council chairman, Ibrahim Daniel. He has provided amenities that have touched the lives of rural people, ‘’ he said.

The chairman of the council, Mr. Ibrahim Daniel, while addressing the decampees, commended them for identifying with some of his achievements in office despite the challenges of lack of funds.

He assured the decampees that his administration would carry them along; adding that the PDP led administration under his leadership would not relent in its efforts to continue to provide basic amenities, especially electricity and potable drinking water.
