Bombings: Ex-lawmaker cautions Niger Delta militants
A two-time member of the House of Representatives, Bishop Alex Ukam who represented the Akamkpa/Biase federal constituency of Cross River State, has decried the anti-economic activities of ex-militants in the Niger Delta.
He wants militants to restrain their actions, saying they are only harming themselves and future generations of Nigerians.
The ex-legislator who is now an administrative aide to the spiritual leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, spoke yesterday in Calabar when he commended President Muhammadu Buhari for finally giving his assent to the 2016 federal budget.
He said, “It bothers me much that youths of the Niger Delta are still persisting in the harmful venture of bombing and destroying oil pipelines all in a bid to vent their anger over certain issues. They think by so doing they would be hitting hard on the Federal Government. Unknown to them, this action will bounce back against them, their children and upcoming generations, not just the national leadership.
“The immediate sufferers of pollution of the environment as a result of destroying oil pipelines are host communities and people of the Niger Delta. They should note that oil has also been discovered in Lagos, Lake Chad and many other places, so they should ponder over what would possibly happen to them.”
Ukam urged the youths and indeed Nigerians to be patient with President Buhari, saying God has deliberately brought him to lead the country at these times to ‘shape’ her socio-political fortunes, and cut the corruption tendencies of Nigerians.
