Dogara, Lasun urge Muslims to pray for Nigeria
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated Muslims in the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan.
In a statement by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan, the speaker urged Muslims to use the period to pray for Nigeria to overcome its present challenges.
Dogara also urged Muslims to allow the lessons of humility, sacrifice, love and selfless service garnered during the 30-day fast to guide their lives and activities.
"May I use this opportunity to urge the faithful to use the occasion to reflect on the lessons of Ramadan and continue to imbibe its teachings which are primarily premised on selflessness, sacrifice, patience, modesty and spirituality", Dogara said.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker, Sulaimon Lasun Yussuff, appealed to Nigerians to love one another, irrespective of religious inclinations and eschew violence.
Lasun in his Eid el-Fitr message signed by his spokesman, Wole Oladimeji, noted that it was in the atmosphere of peace, love and unity that meaningful development could be achieved.
"There is good reason to make this country great, so Nigerians should have patience with the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari who is working tirelessly to rid the country of corruption.
"The energy put in place to fight corruption is greater than the one that would be used to put up developmental projects. Everything is in stages, therefore Nigerians should cooperate and support the president in the fight against corruption," Lasun said.
